October 2026 | If you are looking for a comfortable hotel right in the centre of Jyväskylä, Hotel Verso is a good place to start. Stylish rooms, an excellent breakfast and practically everything within walking distance. Even the car gets its own little adventure.
Parking
Hotel Verso has its own parking area in the underground garage, but manoeuvring your car through it to a parking space is… how should we put this… interesting.
The entrance is on Yliopistonkatu, via the P-Tori parking garage. Once inside, follow the signs for Hotel Verso.
The hotel’s parking area is rather small, the ceiling is low and the parking spaces are squeezed between pillars, making some of them particularly tricky to get into. If you are lucky enough to find a space without a pillar getting in your way, the parking is actually very convenient.
You can take the lift directly from the garage to reception or even straight to your floor. No dragging luggage through the streets, which is always a welcome bonus.
In October 2026, parking cost €16 per night if you paid at reception, compared with €18 through the mobile app. So unless you enjoy paying extra for the same parking space, remember to settle the bill at reception.

Room
The rooms at Hotel Verso are clean, modern and stylish. Perhaps a little lacking in personality, but there is certainly nothing to complain about when it comes to comfort.
The bed deserves a special mention. It is genuinely comfortable, and sometimes that matters more than any amount of decorative cushions or carefully chosen artwork.
The superior room we stayed in was well equipped: a large television, a minibar and a selection of Finnish Lumene toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and soap.
Having proper conditioner and body lotion available is always appreciated. And choosing one of Finland’s best-known cosmetics and skincare brands is a nice little Finnish touch.
All in all, the room might not be the kind you spend half an hour photographing, but it is certainly the kind where you can enjoy a good night’s sleep.

Breakfast
Now, this is where Hotel Verso really shines.
The breakfast is extensive, varied and, most importantly, of genuinely good quality. There is plenty to choose from, and it feels like real attention has been paid to what ends up on the breakfast table.
And if you happen to spot vispipuuro, give it a try. Vispipuuro is a fluffy, whipped semolina porridge traditionally made with lingonberries. Its pink colour and airy texture make it look rather different from what you might expect from porridge. It’s one of those Finnish classics that people seem to either love or hate. Even in our little team of two, it only ever ends up on one plate.
For Finnish children growing up in the 1990s, this was a familiar sight at home, at school and pretty much everywhere in between. Breakfast, snack, dessert? Vispipuuro could handle them all.
It can be eaten warm or chilled. Either way, a splash of milk and a generous sprinkle of sugar are practically mandatory.
Of course, Hotel Verso’s breakfast has much more to offer, but sometimes it is the familiar childhood favourites that make you smile.
One practical tip: breakfast can get busy, and the hotel provides information about the quieter and busier times.
Good to Know

- Sundays in Jyväskylä: Many restaurants, shops and attractions are closed or operate with considerably shorter opening hours. Check ahead if you are planning a Sunday visit.
Something We Will Remember
While younger guests have their own playroom, the hotel bar offers something for the grown-ups: a surprisingly good selection of board games.
And we are not just talking about a lonely deck of cards sitting in a corner. There are proper board games, including old favourites such as Kimble.
It is a small detail, but a rather fun one. Especially at a city hotel where you might otherwise expect the bar to be just another place to have a quick drink before heading upstairs.
Side Quest
Just a couple of minutes’ walk from Hotel Verso is Restaurant Pöllöwaari, one of Jyväskylä’s legendary fine dining restaurants.
We’ve enjoyed some exceptional tasting menus at Pöllöwaari, accompanied by well-paired wines.
If you don’t have room for dinner, you can just enjoy a glass of something interesting in the atmospheric lobby of Hotel Yöpuu, which shares the same building as the restaurant. Restaurant Pöllöwaari, Hotel Yöpuu and Hotel Verso are part of the same family.
If you appreciate excellent food and fine wines, Pöllöwaari is definitely worth making room for in your Jyväskylä plans.
